"Blood Money" is the second episode of Season 6. It premiered on November 3, 2019. Not to be confused with the earlier episode "The Blood Boy".

Brief synopsis[]

Richard meets a potential investor; Gilfoyle butts heads with HR; Gavin explores a leaner Hooli's future.

Plot summary[]

Colin's betrayal of Pied Piper's pledge not to collect user data is even worse than previously thought. Now his Gates of Galloo game is using collected user data for real time ad targeting.

This gives Richard greater urgency in his quest to find an investor so he can get rid of Colin. At a posh Hack Famine fundraiser, Richard meets Maximo Reyes, a Chilean billionaire who offers Richard a billion dollars for a 10% stake in Pied Piper. At the fundraiser, Monica and Richard also learn that Laurie Bream has come back from China and is relocating YaoNet to America, rebranding it YaoNet US.

Reyes had talked to Jared, and Jared had turned Reyes down because of ethical concerns about how Reyes made his billions. Richard decides to also turn Reyes down.

Jared officially resigned from Pied Piper to help Gwart from the incubator, making Richard very angry. Later, Richard goes to the incubator to confront Jared. Richard insults Gwart, making Jared so angry that Jared gets a rifle to shoot pellets at Richard, forcing Richard to run away.

Meanwhile, Tracy from HR is concerned about Gilfoyle's backlog, and insists that Gilfoyle get five subordinates to help him clear the backlog. Gilfoyle gets five employees who have no training in computer programming to pretend to help Gilfoyle in his task. Gilfoyle clears the backlog on his own. It turns out Tracy was manipulating him.

And at Hooli, Gavin Belson is grilled by the board over how much Hooli has lost. Hooli still has Foxhole, a dating app for military men who want to cheat on their wives.

Belson considers moving the company to Georgia, the former Soviet republic. Denpok and Hoover join forces to find a way to stop the move. Hoover figures out a way to paint Foxhole as a national security risk so that the United States government forbids Hooli from moving to Georgia.

Notes[]

Several high-ranking soldiers visit Hooli headquarters, and for some reason they all wear their covers (hats) indoors. It is a rule in the military that a soldier does not wear a cover indoors except when under arms. It seems unlikely military officers would carry weapons to meet with an American billionaire in America.
